How to Get an Unoccupied Home Insurance Quote

Unoccupied Home Insurance Quote

If you’re responsible for an empty property, arranging the right insurance is essential, but it doesn’t need to be complicated. At Insuristic, we’ve made it fast and easy to get a tailored unoccupied home insurance quote online. Whether you’re comparing options or ready to buy, our quote process delivers the right level of cover in minutes.

Whether the property is empty due to probate, sale, renovation, or the owner is in care, our quote process is designed around simplicity, transparency, and the specific risks associated with unoccupied homes.

Why Use a Specialist Broker for an Unoccupied Home Insurance Quote?

Most standard insurers either won’t cover unoccupied property or will apply restrictive conditions that leave gaps in cover, such as excluding escape of water or requiring complicated inspection logs.

Insuristic is different. We specialise in unoccupied property insurance and offer three levels of cover designed to suit different needs and risk appetites. Our online platform allows you to obtain a quote and purchase a policy in minutes, without the need to speak with an adviser or wait for paperwork.

What Information Do You Need for a Quote?

To get started, you’ll need to provide some basic information about the property and your situation:

  • The address and type of property
  • Why the property is unoccupied (e.g. probate, sale, renovations, care)
  • Who is responsible for insuring it (owner, executor, attorney, etc.)
  • Wall and roof construction
  • Number of bedrooms or the rebuild cost
    • (Tip: If you don’t know the rebuild cost, you can get an accurate assessment from Barret Corp Harrington, a specialist in this area.)
  • Contents value (if you’re insuring content, this should reflect the full replacement cost)
  • The level of cover you need — we explain your options clearly during the quote process.
  • If the property has a mortgage, we’ll need the lender’s name to list them as an interested party
  • Whether there have been any previous claims at the property
  • Confirmation that all windows and doors have locks
  • Whether the property is in a good state of repair (i.e. structurally sound, wind- and water-tight, not derelict)
  • If the property can be regularly inspected (once every 14 days or once every 30 days if in probate)

There are no trick questions, and the process usually takes less than two minutes.

Probate Property? We’ve Got You Covered

If you’re an executor or administrator arranging cover during probate, you’ll need a specialist policy that allows you to insure the property in the name of the estate. Our Unoccupied Probate House Insurance does exactly that, with broad protection and practical policy conditions.

There’s no requirement to drain down water systems on our Silver or Gold policies. However, escape of water cover will be capped if the water system hasn’t been drained, so it’s important to consider the potential value of a claim.

Between 31st October and 31st March, you must ensure that the heating is left on continuously at a minimum of 7°C, unless the water system is drained. This helps prevent burst pipes and protects both the property and your personal liability as an executor.

Executors are personally liable for uninsured losses, so choosing the right cover is not just good practice, it’s essential.
